Master the art of inflation and deflation with our step-by-step guide to Spring™ Valves. The illustrated instructions will help you succeed every time:

• Deflation: Position the valve "stem" downward or inward.
• Inflation: Position the stem upward/outward to facilitate inflation.

In the (Inflate) upward/outward position air can be pumped in bypassing the spring-loaded plunger without air escaping. (Note: If the top of the stem is almost level with the edge of the threaded valve then it is in the upward/outward position, known as the inflate position.) If the valve is in the inflate position and you want to set it to the deflate position, this is done by pushing the stem down/ inward with your index finger, then rotating your finger a quarter turn. This step is repeated to move back to the inflated position. When you release your finger the stem should remain in the down/inward position. The deflate position allows air to flow in or out without restriction. If you are using a 12V inflator to inflate your kayak you may need to have the stem in the down/inward position as the 12V pump most likely will not have enough pressure to bypass the spring-loaded plunger when the valve is in the up/outward (inflate) setting.

The screw-on valve adaptor is specifically designed to ensure that the pump hose is securely connected to the valve, preventing it from falling off during inflation, thus facilitating the inflation process. The valve adaptor also features a semi-circle protrusion that will depress the stem and open the valve slightly to enable pumps fitted with pressure gauges to provide a constant reading.
